How do your lessons run?
Our lessons run on a termly basis roughly in line with the academic school year.
How long are your swimming lessons?
Our Lessons for Beginners and Intermediate levels last for 30 minutes.
Advanced Swimming Classes may have a longer duration of lesson.
Here is a guide of lesson duration at our different venues:
30 mins – Latchmere, Grand Avenue, Downsend and Fitness 4 Less
45 mins – Reed’s School
1 hour sessions – Downsend and Reed’s School
How many children are in a class?
Our current standard pupil to teacher ratio is 1 teacher to 4 children for Complete Beginner. Water confident Non Swimmer and Intermediate groups can be up to 1 teacher to 5 children. Older Advanced groups, having learned all 4 strokes, may have slightly longer lessons and a slightly higher pupil to teacher ratio.
Will the teacher be in the water?
Yes, for complete beginners and those who are nervous in the water up to improver level.
Thereafter, teachers teach from the pool side for better visibility and stroke correction.
Does my child have to wear a swimming hat and goggles?
Where the school rules indicate that it is compulsory for all swimmers to wear swimming hats during lessons.
Goggles may be worn but if a teacher may ask to remove them if it is impeding the ability of the swimmer during the lesson.
Do you have an AWARDS scheme/Badges and Certificates?
Yes, we have our own SHARK AWARDS. They will be available to purchase at the end of each term from our designated admin assistant (please check our Facebook page and newsletters for more information). Awards will only be available to purchase on a designated Badge Day.
Do you offer lessons to Adults?
We occasionally offer private lessons for Adults in New Malden, whether you are a complete beginner or looking to improve your stroke technique.
